Before moving to Glooucestershire in 1983, Ian was Director of Music for various schools on Merseyside. He has since taught piano and organ at Cheltenham College and Pates Grammar School and is currently School organist and Tutor in organ and piano at St. Edward’s School Cheltenham, a post he has held since since 1991. He has been Director of Music for the University of Gloucestershire, since 2002, where he is responsible for building up the extra-curricular music, running and directing the choir / orchestra, playing the organ and conducting the choir for high profile corporate events, acting as Musical Director for musical theatre productions and teaching music. He was also responsible for introducing music scholarships to the University and continues to teach and manage the music scholars.Ian is also Principal of the Three Counties School of Music, music assessment board, which is run in association with the University of Gloucestershire. Ian is also in demand as a workshop leader, examiner and an adjudicator for music festivals / house competitions. |
It is also through the Three Counties Music services that Ian has also established the Three Counties School of Music Assessment scheme – a new assessment board, which is run in association with the University of Gloucestershire, that runs accessible and affordable music assessments in most musical disciplines, ranging from grades & performance certificates to diplomas, all of which focus largely on a variety of styles and genres of performance and the composition side of music.
Ian has also led choral and orchestral workshops in the UK, Jersey and the US – these have included local amateur societies, schools and church choirs. He also holds Honorary Fellowship diplomas from the National College of Music HonFNCM, North & Midlands School of Music HonFNMSM, Victoria College of Music FVCM, Independent Contemporary Music Awards HonFMus(ICMA) and the Metropolitan College of Music FMCM, in recognition for his services to music.
