A chamber orchestra that aims for high standards, whilst still
recognising that playing is fun!
Cotswold Camerata is a chamber orchestra which was formed in 2012 by Ian Higginson, in order
for it’s players to perform public concerts to a high standard, whilst still having fun.
Their first public performances were given whilst on their first concert tour in Belgium.
The orchestra is friendly and exciting and it consists of a group of trained enthusiastic professional,
semi-professional and good amateur orchestral musicians, who live and work in the Cotswold area.
The standard of the players ranges from Grade 8 through to music degree / diploma level
and they are ably led by Ben Hall.
Cotswold Camerata aims to perform about three concerts per year, yet there is not too much rehearsal commitment expected from the players.
The members meet for a social / planning session, followed by two - three rehearsals prior to
each of the three concerts or occasional concert tours.
The concerts are held in different venues usually within the cotswold area, whilst the chosen programmes are appealing, varied and usually focus on repertoire from either the classical period, or music with chamber orchestra size scoring.
The Orchestra is delighted that Professor Ian Tracey (the international concert organist & conductor)
and John Lenehan (the international concert pianist & composer), have both kindly agreed to
become patrons to the Cotswold Camerata.
Cotswold Camerata aims to include a retiring collection in aid of charities at our concerts and the charity we choose to support is always chosen by the members of Cotswold Camerata.
MEMBERSHIP
Are you a minimum of Grade 8 standard and are enthusiastic and keen to play in an exciting and friendly chamber orchestra to a high standard for fun, but without a subscription, or a weekly rehearsal
commitment from members?
We meet occasionally for a social / planning evening prior to rehearsing twice before each of our
two - three performances per annum, which are held in different venues usually within the
cotswold area.
Although there is not a regular weekly commitment for players, it is expected that all members look at music in advance and are enthusiastic / committed to the rehearsals and public performances.
There are currently no subscriptions to join the orchestra.
Although there are no auditions, where vacancies are available, all new members will be subject to
a trial period, with a view to make it permanent.
All applications are subject to vacancy.
